Three types of Jesus followers…
Follower #1: the curious.
Follower #2: the convinced.
Follower #3: the _committed_.
Three things Jesus challenges as we choose to Step UP…
Challenge #1: Our comfortable _lifestyle_.
As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, ‘I will follow you wherever you go.’ Jesus replied, ‘Foxes have holes, birds have nests but the son of man has no place to lay his head.’ Luke 9:57
Challenge #2: Our __procrastination_.
He said to another man, follow me, but he replied, ‘Lord first let me go bury my father.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Let the dead bury their own dead but you go and proclaim the Kingdom of God.’ Luke 9:59
Challenge #3: Our _emotional ties__.
Still another said, ‘I will follow you, Lord, but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family. No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the Kingdom of God.’ Luke 9:61
What we learn about the follower who Steps UP…
- The follower of Jesus has no earthly __ties_.
Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself. He had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Philippians 2:5-6 (The Message)
- The follower of Jesus has no earthly __priorities_.
He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me. And he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Matthew 10:37
- The follower of Jesus has no earthly _distractions_.
I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. Psalm 119:15
